There are days where the tiny incremental changes that mark our lives suddenly become massively apparent.

At the weekend we went mooching round some Op Shops and it occurred to me that Alfie had peeled off to do his own thing and that actually I didn’t mind. I wasn’t cringing for the sound of a toddler body-checking a glass cabinet, or the gut churning rip of an expensive painting, I was content to trust him to explore.

I was so curious about my new attitude towards my son I turned back to find him. And there he was sitting amongst the books reading silently to himself.

And it took my breath away.

Like a thief in the night, time has stolen any last trace of toddler from him and left me instead with a beautiful boy.
